SUDO: social rules and conversational principles.

The SUDO is committed to providing a safe and friendly environment for all attendees. We welcome all, regardless of technical ability, gender, sexual orientation/identity, age, ethnicity, or religion.

To aid us in this, we have some guidance. The social rules provide a baseline for good behavior, and are straightforward. The conversational principles are guidance for having productive conversations, rather than rants or arguments. We’l start with the social rules:

These rules are lightweight and concretely applicable. You should not be afraid of breaking these. These are things that everyone does, and breaking one of the rules doesn’t make you a bad person. If someone says, “hey, you just feigned surprise,” or “that’s subtly sexist,” don’t worry. Just apologize, reflect for a second, and move on.
